RFQ acknowledges this is a long-term commitment and change is incremental.

Statement of Intent

RFQ is establishing meaningful activities that will prove effective in building the cultural capability of our people and services and demonstrate our commitment to improving the wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community members by:

Creating a minimum of five identified positions by 2022 to ensure that services become more responsive to the needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community members.

Developing and delivering resources and training to ensure staff are informed of the importance of the question and achieve 100% compliance by 2022 in asking the question, “Are you of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander origin?”.

Supporting our Area Offices to establish formal partnerships or service agreements with at least one locally relevant Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander agency by 2022.

Developing resources and training to enhance staff understanding of the unique aspects and impact of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders’ social and emotional wellbeing and mental health. As a early step toward cultural capability the training will be delivered to 75% of RFQ staff by 2022.

Establishing an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Hospital to Home Service by 2021. This service will include referrals to and from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander led services and staff and will be evaluated after its first 12 months of delivery. This will assist in establishing an evidence base for Indigenous designed and led services.
