About the program

Caring for family members who have experienced a suicidal crisis and/or suicide attempt can have an acute impact on carers, including emotional, financial and social effects.

The Family & Friends Program was developed with the goal of creating a community that supports and values those who are caring for someone experiencing a suicidal crisis and/or suicide attempt.

Services aim to provide safe and holistic support to carers in the following ways:

Be accessible and inclusive where carers feel heard and respected

Maintain a unique focus on the carers’ needs and wants

Create a space to be valued and supported

Facilitate connection and meaningful interactions with community and carer community

Allow for flexibility in support to meet the carers’ unique needs

Eligibility

To be eligible for this service, you need to:
18 years or older

Reside in the Wide Bay region

Be supporting an individual who has experienced a suicidal crisis and /or suicide attempt

Access

Referral pathways for this service include, but are not limited to:

Hospital and Health Service

Universal Aftercare providers

General Practitioners

Allied health professionals

Community services or self-referral

How we support you:


Provide timely connection with carers to offer relevant support with a trained peer support facilitator

Identify and support carers’ needs

Provide information, tools and practical resources to support carers to increase their knowledge and skills

Increase carers’ sense of agency and empowerment

Increase a sense of belonging and connection for carers

Empower carers to meet unique needs by assisting to navigate local service system and referrals to other supports

Lighten the caregiver load
